DUQCOM Pulse Tutor & Mentor (Work-Study Required)

The Duquesne University College of Osteopathic Medicine has created a longitudinal pathway program to support minoritized/underserved middle-school and high-school students interested in a career in healthcare careers through high school and beyond, by providing summer STEM/healthcare-related programming as well as academic advisement and tutoring. This Pathway for Understanding, Learning, and Scientific Exploration (PULSE) program is now seeking college students interested in providing near-peer STEM tutoring to our PULSE students. Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of young people, and helping to address healthcare inequities in our community? We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our team of PULSE Tutors. You will provide academic support to middle, or high school students in a local school, in Duquesne Library and/or community program setting.

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide one-on-one and small-group tutoring sessions to students in various subjects
  • Assist students with homework, test preparation, and academic skill development
  • Create engaging and interactive learning experiences tailored to each student's needs
  • Maintain accurate student records and progress reports
  • Develop programming and curriculum for PULSE
  • Mentor PULSE Pathway Program scholars

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Passion for education and a commitment to making a difference
  • Strong academic profile specifically in (math, science, and reading)

Benefits

  • Competitive hourly rate of $15.00
  • Flexible schedule with 13-15 hours of work per week between 3 PM and 8 PM, Monday-Friday and some weekend hours as needed
