POSITION
SUMMARY:
This full-time administrative
support position requires familiarity with ESL or modern language education,
and experience with organizing student activities, social media platforms, and
intercultural communication. The position carries a broad range of
administrative responsibilities to provide student services in the Global
English Institute (GEI). Key duties
include updating the website, maintaining social media presence, and organizing
short-term program and student activities. The person in this position will
work closely with the GEI faculty and staff to create a space for meaningful
student engagement outside of the classes as well as support the development of
a media presence to promote the GEI in the university and extended community.
The position
reports to the Assistant Director of the Global English Institute in the
Duquesne University Center for Global Engagement.
DUTIES
AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administration
Oversee the
overall operation of the Global English Institute
Manage two full-time staff members as well as part-time instructors,
tutors and volunteers
Manage the budget for the Global English Institute
Serve as the
liaison to the Center for Global Engagement
Recruitment and Admissions
Assist International Student Services division with
student recruitment activities, including international travel, when necessary
Evaluate applications for admission to the Global
English Institute
Maintain and develop the GEI website and social media
presence
Short-Term Program and Event Coordination
Oversees special
short-term English language programs such as the United Arab Emirate Ministry
of Defense English Program and the Omiya International School programs, as well
as other potential programs
Works closely the
DuqGlobal to recruit and develop new short-term programs
Negotiates
budgets for clients
Designs curriculum and overall structure
of short-term programs
Testing
Oversees the placement testing system
for all GEI students
Works closely with academic departments
and the Assistant Professor in GEI to ensure that graduate students are
prepared for academic coursework and/or teaching assistantships as mandated by
the Commonwealth of PA.
Instructors
and Tutors
Oversee the hiring and onboarding of
appropriate adjunct instructors with ESL instruction experience
Work with The Center for Global
Engagement to manage the adjunct budget and ensure that we are maximizing our
instructors relative to the number of students enrolled in the program
Hire student
aides and tutors; provide training and orientation to tutors; establish
schedules and ongoing communication among tutors, instructors and students
Assist the Assistant Professor in evaluating instructor performance and
course quality
Supervises two other full-time
positions as well as 15-20 adjunct instructors and tutors in our program
Travel is required for this position
Completes other
duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s
Degree in TESOL, English, Composition or Education from an accredited
institution
Valid PA
Driver’s License
Preferred qualifications:
Master’s Degree in
TESOL, English, Composition or Education from an accredited institution.
3-5 years
work related experience
Note: Extensive Administrative experience; TESOL or other
teaching certification; extensive ESL classroom experience may substitute for
above noted education.
Alternately, the successful candidate
may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which
provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential
job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Familiarity and understanding of the
field of English Second Language, language instruction, and the administration
of such programs
Proficiency in
use of Microsoft Office
Basic proficiency with social media platforms
and instructional technology
Strong
organizational skills
Ability to work
with students and faculty from a wide range of backgrounds, countries and
cultures
Initiative to contribute to the smooth
operation and promotion of the Global English Institute.
