Graduate Assistant - Part Time Training Specialist in the Office of Human Resources

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Manager of Learning and Development in the Office of Human Resources, the Part-time Graduate Assistant (GA) /Training Specialist will support various training activities and perform necessary functions to ensure successful professional learning experience for Duquesne University employees and guests of the University. This role includes the coordination of training logistics including maintenance of records, preparation of physical training rooms, organization of virtual conferences and managing pre and post training communications.

        Work schedule is flexible and consists of 20 hours per week. Work will be reviewed by observation of consistent and reliable employee work performance, advancing skill development and conference. Financial aid of six credits in the fall and spring semesters is included.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (This list is neither absolute nor restrictive, but indicates approximate duties and responsibilities, which may be redefined pursuant to operational need)

Bachelor’s degree with desired ongoing study in Instructional Design and Technology, Human Resources, Organizational Dynamics, Education, Social Sciences or closely related field. Any combination of experience or training which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential job functions.

Responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Practical knowledge and ability using multimedia software, MS Office with intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Excel and MS PowerPoint
  • Ability to learn software applications quickly, such as authoring tools, survey metrics, communications campaigns and reporting systems
  • Strong organizational, time management, and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated excellent proofreading and written communication skills
  • Strong oral and presentation skills
  • Ability to function independently in a multi-task environment, as well as part of a team
  • Experience preparing training documentation for end users using a variety of delivery modes
  • Effective customer service skills and orientation
  • Ability to work well and maintain relationships with the campus community, such as faculty, managers, directors, all levels of employees and vendors;
  • Ability to work with considerable independence;
  • Openness and willingness to learn and grow in the position;

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • 2-4 years of training/instructional design experience with a focus on adult learning theory and/or related work experience in college or university setting.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theories and experience working with adult learners
  • Learning management systems experience
  • Ability to maintain in-depth and up-to-date knowledge of the training and development field
  • Experience in project management
