Writing consultants meet individually or in small groups with students to help them with writing from all stages of their writing processes. Writing consultants provide advice and suggestions for a range of writing tasks and concerns, from developing thesis statements to citing and integrating sources. The Writing Center offers a teaching, not a proofreading service. Our goal is to teach writers how to improve rather than to edit for them. See the Center’s website, www.duq.edu/writing-center, for further description of the Center’s services.
The consultant for the Online Writing Center helps distance education students, primarily from the School of Nursing’s graduate programs, virtually via Zoom as well as students who visit the Writing Center for face-to-face sessions without an appointment (i.e., on a walk-in basis). Knowledge of or willingness to learn Zoom is required.
The position currently pays $16/hour and is funded for 8 hours per week.
Tutoring or teaching experience, particularly of writing, is desirable. Training is provided. In addition to an orientation, one hour every other week is spent at professional development meetings that provide ongoing training.
Applicants must be full-time students in a for-credit degree program and cannot be working another job at Duquesne. Applications are being accepted immediately and will be processed as they are received.
