HRIS Service Consultant I - Office of Human Resources

This is a highly skilled position requiring the exercise of initiative and independent judgement.  Position requires extensive knowledge of the University's policies and procedures relative to salaries, benefits, payroll, and personnel procedures.  Position requires acuity for technology and understanding of dependencies and relationship of data systems and workflow processes. Work involves the responsibility to establish and maintain complex employee personnel and payroll records.  The employee interacts with all aspects of the University's community including the executive/administrative/clerical staff as well as the general public.  The employee must exercise judgement and discretion in its relationships with this diverse group. Employee serves as a member of the HR Call Center Team to service University employees and constituents.


Establishes and maintains working relationships with key personnel in the management of employment and payroll records.  Assist with complex administrative processes and audits.

Establishes and maintains both electronic and manual support records for all employees including the personnel, payroll, leave, and benefit records.  This activity requires astute knowledge with University policies and procedures as well as command of the administrative computing systems.  Responsible for documenting, coding, and processing all data necessary to support the employee record including new hires, terminations, re-appointments, status and salary changes to personal information.

Responsible for conducting intensive and complex audits of employee records including regular bi-weekly audits of the pay files.  Ensures that completed work conforms to established University and Human Resources standards and criteria.

Responsible for providing assistance to the University community and directing inquiries relative to the HR Service Call Center.  Candidate is to expected to represent the department and University with the utmost professionalism in an attentive and positive manner. Candidate seeks opportunities to offer information and provide general assistance.

Manages files and records in an organized manner.

Performs other duties as requested.


Minimum Qualifications:

Associate’s degree in accounting, information systems, computer science, or related field from an accredited institution.

3-5 years’ progressively responsible and related work experience, specifically in the area of HR and/or Payroll processing.

Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Knowledge of software applications, including database and spreadsheets; advance excel skills preferred. Knowledge of SCT Banner preferred. Knowledge and/or experience with any of the following applications is helpful - project ticketing systems, Cornerstone, Cognos or third-party applications such as HireRight. 

Knowledge of office procedures and equipment.

Knowledge of University policies and procedures related to employment and/or ability to learn.

Knowledge of basic accounting, payroll and benefit concepts. Budget management experience helpful.

Ability to work independently and exercise confidentiality with employment information.

Ability to effectively well with work well with others as a member of the HRIS team.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with University staff, faculty, students, and the general public.

Ability to provide astute attention to detail and problem solving.

Ability to make arithmetic calculations and understand complex data integrations and data relationships.

Strong customer service orientation.

Work is performed in an office environment
