POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Coordinator of External Programs, under the direction of the
Coordinator of External Programs, will manage the Department of Catholic
Studies’ external programs. These
include local strategic partnerships, and national and international
initiatives, which continue and extend the external work of the Department of
Catholic Studies.
DUTIES
AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Promote and expand through local external partnerships of the
Department of Catholic Studies, particularly through diocesan engagement. Plan
joint events for students and the public, which when hosted at Duquesne may
involve finance, marketing, communication, Conference and Event Services,
parking, and transportation. Other local collaborations may include religious
orders, and others with a Catholic or Christian mission and orientation.
At the direction of the Coordinator of External Programs,
develop, plan, and execute special projects and initiatives. Included under
this function are two special projects that are already in an advanced state,
namely the national and international partnerships that have created the annual
Catholic Studies Symposium gatherings and the Catholic Studies in Rome project.
Duquesne has been and remains the principal convener for these projects, with
the intention that by 30 June 2026 the national Catholic Studies partners
create a consortium entity to take on these functions, and the Catholic Studies
in Rome program establishes its own administrative organization.
Perform research on the Catholic Studies movement and related
initiatives, with special attention to the United States and Canada, and other
research in Catholic higher education appropriate to professional development.
At the direction of the Coordinator of External Programs, may
assist with the monthly budget reconciliation for the Department, as well as
consult, advise, and support budgeting and operations, and any other projects
that may emerge and are assigned by the Coordinator of External Programs.
Travel is required 10% of the time.
Completes other
duties as assigned.

Supervises
students only (1-2).
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum qualifications:
Experience networking and
building collaborative projects between Catholic educational and ecclesial
institutions at the local, national, and/or international level would be a
major advantage, regardless of degrees earned.
1-3 years University Administrative experience (or equivalent) in a
relevant area.
Valid driver’s license in good standing.
Preferred qualifications:
MA or PhD preferred, in a field of the Humanities, with emphasis on some
aspect of the Roman Catholic Tradition
Alternately, the successful candidate
may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which
provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential
job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Familiarity with
Catholic education and the Catholic Intellectual Tradition is essential.
1-3 years of
administrative experience in a professional capacity is important, preferably
in a university or equivalent mission-driven organization.
Excellent
interpersonal and written communication skills, including editorial skills are
essential.
An informed
understanding and appreciation of the mission of the Department of Catholic
Studies is desirable but not required for this position.
Project/Process
Management: Strong organizational, project, planning and cooperative management
skills are important.
Computer/Technical:
Strong computer and software skills desireable. Knowledge of and facility with various social media platforms and
relevant current communications methods desirable. List and data
management skills essential, e.g. ongoing development of donor database, email
lists, strategic lists.
Written
Communications: Reports, grant applications, general correspondence, routine
email correspondence.
Oral Communications: Presentation
skills; coordinating meetings and programs.
