The student in this position will support work on the scholarly project 'Assessing the Assessor: A Study of Gen AI’s Evaluative Responses to Writing'.
The position is funded in part by a Paluse Grant from the Center for Catholic Faith and Culture. This project seeks to understand the feedback generative AI provides on writing. It aims to provide insightinto ways in which gen AI can, cannot, should, and should not be used to assess writing.
The Research Assistant for this project will help test how gen AI can serve as an assessment tool in four ways: coach, editor, grader, and peer reviewer. This project will involve two main research stages:
1. Prompt 6 gen AI platforms for all 4 assessment roles for 4 writing samples and save the responses.
2. Work with me to code the gen AI platform responses per the VALUE rubric and DEI style guide for roles 1, 3, and 4 (coach, grader, and peer reviewerTraining will be provided. Attendance at regular check-in meetings is expected.The position pays $16/hour and is funded for 9 hours per week for the 15-week semester.
